Two brothers from Saint John, New Brunswick have recently launched their first social networking site - YourTeam which is a niche site for hockey coaches, players and parents. Looking to leverage the popularity of other social networking sites such as MySpace, Adrian and Chris
Nadeau’s site offers its users the ability to build personalized websites, make their own player cards, coaches can provide maps to rinks, and there is team-wide e-mail, text messaging, and game notes available to users. Players can list their statistics and standings; parents can check schedules online or share photos and videos with friends and family members. If a practice is canceled, instead of phoning each individual player, the coach can send out a group e-mail or instant message.
Within a seven week period of time (ending Oct 31) the site has grown to:
- 173 teams signed up
- 2595 users
- Avg 20,000 to 25,000 page views per month (and climbing)
Future plans for the site include expansion into Ontario and Nova Scotia, with a US based version possibly to launch later this year. Revenue will come from advertisers looking to reach a targeted audience. Chris also shared that they plan to launch a soccer site in the spring of ‘07.
