Yahoo Canada gives birth to new search marketing platform

After months of hard work, Martin Byrne, National Director, Search Marketing and the team over at Yahoo! Canada have officially released Yahoo Search Marketing to Canadians. The product formally known as “Panama†has received good reviews from SEM
consultants and advertisers. During an event hosted by Yahoo! Canada last week Martin shared some great stats about the Canadian online landscape:
- 59% of Canadian access the internet at least once a week
- Canadians spend 30.5 hours a month online
- In 2006, Canadian firms spent an estimated $810 million advertising online
- In 2007 Search Marketing pending in Canada is estimate to be more than $400 million annually and growing
Not afraid to be bold, Martin also made a predicts that “in 2007, $1.1 billion will be spend in online advertising, and search will be $30%.”
Why is Search Engine Marketing so big?
- ecommerce depends on SEM
- $105 billion is predicted to be spent in 2007 by Canadian consumers online
- 68% of Canadians online will use search engines to research on and offline purchases
- Canadians use search engines for 33 million queries a day
- over 55% of search queries by consumers use basic terms, such as “cheap travel”
- 13% of NA internet users report frequently clicking on sponsored search listing
