With the 2007 Quebec Elections approaching Canoe has launched what they are calling a “state-of-the-art platform where Quebecers can share
videos, photos and opinions with friends, family, co-workers and people who share common interests.†According to Bruno Leclaire, President and Chief Executive Officer of Canoe and Vice President, Interactive Media of Quebecor Media, “the election campaign is a great opportunity for Canoe to lead the way yet again by using advanced Web 2.0 features as a platform for democracy.”
Politicians around the world are getting wise to the power of social media, Barack Obama used it to announce his candidacy for US Presidency, Toronto Mayor David Miller used to for his re-election campaign and Garth Turner used his blog to leak cabinet discussions - opps.
Electorial candidate Jean Lapierre has already set up his page at http://espacecanoe.ca/jeanlapierre and looks like he already has some members (very similar to MyBlogs which was recently purchased by Yahoo). By the looks of it, Jean is using his page to offer commentary on the campaign. Journalist also have the opportunity to contribute content about the Quebec election and post videos.
