Are you addicted to Facebook? Is your “crackberry” like a new body part? While the traditional 9 - 5 hours are long gone, employees still find time for their distractions and surf the Internet during work hours. Some new data from Robert Half Technology was recently released about the Internet usage policies, and the number one reason to have these policies in place - “To prevent employees from accessing inappropriate content at work.”

CIOs were also asked, “Which of the following are reasons for your company’s policies limiting employees’ web browsing?” Their responses(*):
————————————————————————-

To prevent employees from accessing inappropriate content at work…. 59%
To prevent virus attacks, installation of malware, etc……… 52%
To keep employees from wasting time at work……………….. 51%
Other/don’t know……………………………………….. 1%

Is it our fault really, with so many cool new sites being announced on an almost daily basis it is like being a kid in a candy story. Of course we’re still in the early days of the “new web” and the true power of being able to connect people online for business purposes hasn’t hit its peak yet. So how many hours a day do you spend on Facebook, take this quick poll (shh, our little secret, we won’t tell your boss.)
