From the war of the browsers, war of the search engines to the war of social networks, things are HOT on the Internet world and continues to heat up week after week!  Friday night at midnight EST, social networking site Facebook gave its 200,000+ user base the opportunity to customize their profile url.  I was able to snap up http://www.facebook.com/daveforde, of course one of the most obvious benefits to the customized url is being able to be found that much easier on search engines such as Google.  Not a bad way for Facebook to test its power to have its user base to see how many users they could get to act on something at one time, 3 million according to Mashable who was on site at Facebook headquarters Friday night.

GoogleSays they are launching a new search engine for microblogs such as Twitter, no major surprise here and it does make sense to launch this as a new product. Why?  It leaves the door open for two possible scenarios – 1 – Twitter might launch their own product which might trump anything Google (or any other search player comes up with) as Twitter has direct access to the data. 2 – Biz Stone and the boys at Twitter still might say “yes” and let Google purchase Twitter at some point down the line.

Apple – Steve Jobs is returning to the helm at Apple by the end of June. Speaking of browsers war, Apple’s Safari saw over 11 million downloads for the latest version in the first 3 days of its release.

Dell – Dell is reporting they have been able to earn well over $2 million dollars revenue through using their account on Twitter (@DellOutlet)

MySpace – The new CEO’s been at the helm for a few weeks now and there are already rumours floating around of cuts as high as 25% of the staff, the rumours caused employees on both sides of the border to say good-buy early to the social networking site.
