Week That Was – 2008-05-08

Ideas + Execution – somewhere in a combination of those two words lies a magic formula that allows for companies to survive and beat the recession.  Hopefully you’ve found the magic formula to your business being a success.

MySpace – Looks like they’ve also been hit by the recession blues as the social network laid off just over 40 employees last week, no word on if that has hit anyone with MySpace Canada.

eBay – As they try to streamline operation the e-commerce marketplace shuts down its Canadian service facility in British Columbia. The center employees 700 customer service agents and is expected to close by September 30, 2009.  eBay also recently dumped its Canadian acquisition StumbleUpon a few earlier this year.

Twitter  – Well apparently Oprah decided to be part of the trend and get onto the social network which gave it a big boast of 40% growth.  That now brings it to 25 million users and a valuation of $250 million.  Oh ya, and there was also a rumour floating around that Apple was negotiation to buy the service but that has turned out to be false.

Microsoft – Announced they are laying off 3,000 employees over the next 18 months, this brings their current total layoffs over the last year to around 5,000.
