Week That Was – 2008-01-23

The first annual Advertising Week starts off today with 4 days of events over 6 cities across North America.  We’ll be on hand each day to cover the events and bring you some great interviews with the speakers and attendees.  The early bird registration was also turned on for our upcoming The Bold and The Blogging event and Shop Online ‘09 which takes place on April 21.

Microsoft – Has received lots of love lately for the beta of Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8 but love just doesn’t pay the bills and the company has announced they will layoff 5,000 in research and development, marketing, sales, finance, and other departments over the next 2 years

Apple – Being on my 3rd replacement MacBook Pro Apple is a torn in my side, but someone is still buying from them as they report $1.61 Billion profit for Q1 2009, oh and it looks like even Apple’s OS is susceptible to trojan worms

Twitter – They did it, micro-blogging service Twitter has surpassed traffic on Digg.com

eBay – Reported $2.04 Billion in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2008 and $8.54 Billion in revenue for entire year of 2008

Google – Although there some doubts leading up to it, Google still pulled again for last quarter of 2008 reporting of $5.70 Billion for the quarter ended (an increase of 18% compared to the fourth quarter of 2007)

Here are some of the other industry stories and news that we talked about in this edition of The Week That Was.
