Skype experienced an outage of their service last week which left millions around the globe without their VOIP (Voice over IP service) and fellow Toronto resident and Skype Journal writer Jim Courtney reports on his experience. Luckily enough the service
was out before his wife caught him on his laptop as they celebrated their wedding anniversary on a get-away north of Toronto (congratulations Jim, and here is to many more good years). News like this created lots of speculation as to whether web based services (SaaS) is truly the right choice for business users who depend upon these business solutions, which is something that I was wondering earlier this year. On the flip side the news was good for many of Skype’s competitors as they had a spike in new users who were looking for alternative services, which just goes to show that even the biggest players can have a bad day. Will you be ready to take advantage of the opportunity when your competitor stumbles?
