One of the interesting things in the news last week was the Ontario government’s ban on social networking site Facebook which is a big shock
considering elected members such as
Research In Motion’s Blackberry device has dominated the mobile business market and now the Waterloo based manufacture is looking to carve a bigger piece of the consumer market with the launch of the Blackberry Curve which will include a 2 megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom and media player.

Speaking of the domino effect, 2 weeks ago there was the news that Google acquired DoubleClick and last week and last week Yahoo acquire the remaining 80% in of Right Media for $680 million and Microsoft is rumoured to be looking to acquire 24/7 RealMedia. This is Yahoo’s first big purchase in almost two years and further signs of the race between the Internet’s Big Three in the race for advertising dollars. Other purchases by Yahoo have been more in the social media space including MyBlogLog, Upcoming.org, del.icio.us and Flickr. The news has also spered another round of “Microsoft to acquire Yahoo rumours.”

An quick update on last week’s announcement of NBC Universal’s purchase of Rmail, according to Marketing Vox the purchase price was $150,000, which isn’t bad considering founder Randy Charles Morrin launched the site to solve a business problem for himself and never planned for it to be a business. However it does raise a good question for would be entrepreneurs, is your business idea a feature or benefit?
