While Microsoft turned down the chance to purchase DoubleClick, we’re still sure they are not about to lie down and let Google have all the fun. According to Don Dodge, Microsoft wants to give away “Unlimited Potential” which is their new program aimed at delivering low cost PCs to students, bundled with Windows XP, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Math, Learning Essentials, and Windows Live Mail, all for $3. The machines will be offered to governments who supply PCs directly to 5 million students across the world. A statement about the program was also released, “All human beings deserve a chance to achieve their full potential,†said Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft. “Bringing the benefits of technology to the next 5 billion people will require new products that meet the needs of under served communities; creative, new business approaches that make technology more relevant, accessible and affordable; and close collaboration between local governments, educational institutions and community organizations.â€Â
eBay acquires StumbleUpon, the site that allows users to discover or “stumble” across online content and blog posts, but as quickly as that news broke none other then Google announces they are going to build a competitive product.
