The big story around the Internet last week was Google’s $3.1B cash to purchase DoubleClick, why? Is it the $300 million/year, or it is to make sure they stay ahead of Microsoft? Will anyone be able to make a significant knock in Google’s dominance on the Internet in 2007?

Social Media vs. Email Marketing, which has a bigger future? I had a chance to talk to Kelly Rusk (cardcommunications) and Stefan Eyram (ExactTarget) to get their thoughts on social media’s impact on email marketing. Oh and while you are there take the poll.

Edelman Canada has taken a majority interest in Vancouver based Karyo, expanding the PR practice in Canada.

Is email marketing still a sexy business to be in? Sitebrand thinks there is a strong future and has purchased Ottawa based cardcommunications.

On the Move:

Ben Vinegar has joined the FreshBooks, according to their blog to “pitching in on support as well as helping us develop things faster and better as we continue to improve the FreshBooks application.”

Nstein Technologies has appointment Luc Filiatreault as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company effective April 23, 2007. Luc has 20 years in the technology industry and in 2005 received the “Top 40 under 40″ award presented by Toronto’s Globe and Mail.

Jill Yetman has left Porter Novelli to join the team at Environics as a Senior Consultant for the PR agencies Technology practice.

Kaboose keeps on chugging along with its latest hire, Dottie Enrico who has been hired as Publisher of Kaboose’s pregnancy and parenting website, Babyzone.com. Dottie was most recently Editorial Director at Pearson’s Family Education
Network and has over 20 years of editorial and content experience.
