Virgin MobileVirgin Mobile Canada has selected QuickPlay Media’s OpenVideo platform to power their Virgin Live video and audio streaming service. In conjunction with this launch, Virgin Mobile Canada will make Heavy.com content available to the Canadian mobile market for the first time.

The QuickPlay OpenVideo platform currently powers 11 other mobile operators across Canada and the Unites States, allowing the carriers to provide both live and on-demand content from more than 130 different content providers.

“When we decided to offer audio and video streaming to our Virgin Mobile customers in Canada we required a proven, scalable platform, capable of managing and delivering leading edge video content and a quality content, provider that would drive service demand,” said Fil Giulione, vice president, product marketing, Virgin Mobile Canada. “The OpenVideo platform’s open architecture ensures that as market demands change, additional video services can be added quickly and easily. This scalability married with relevant, quality content from Heavy.com will help Virgin establish itself as THE provider of premium mobile video and audio services in Canada.”

The new service from Virgin will leverage various content from Heavy.com including music, sports, news, entertainment and exclusive Heavy.com and will initially be available to pre-paid subscribers with the Samsung m510 phones on both a pay-per-use and unlimited monthly subscription basis.
