The University of Calgary’s Schulich School of Engineering has received a generous gift of $3 million from the Li Ka Shing (Canada) Foundation, which will be used to better cultivate research that leads to innovative educational programs, the results of which will be disseminated to the broader international community through conference presentations and visits to other institutions, including those in the People’s Republic of China. The University has also announced that it will match the donation bringing total funds available to $6 million.
Dr Elizabeth Cannon, Dean of the Schulich School of Engineering adds, “The world is changing; the workplace is changing. For graduates to be leaders in this constantly changing milieu, they need to have extensive experience with how to innovate within the systems that make up the foundations of engineering.”
The Schulich School of Engineering is one of the most competitive programs across Canada with an undergraduate enrollment program that has increased by 35 percent in the past five years to over 2,700 students, and graduate enrollment by 70 percent to about 1,000 students.
