Amazon announced that the Kindle is now being shipped to Canada, only a month after announcing that it would be available Internationally. It will be available for $259 US which isn’t bad for the device.
In the press release, Ian Freed, Vice President of Kindle said “We know that Canadians are passionate about books and reading, and we’re excited to make Kindle available to our customers there, Kindle enables customers around the world including Canada to think of a book and start reading it in under 60 seconds.” Hold the presses, don’t get excited just yet because as of the announcement they still have not negotaited a deal with any of the Canadian wireless carriers. Bell, Rogers, TELUS, are any of you interested in a little extra revenue?
Considering that Rogers was the first to offer the Apple iPhone to Canada they might be in the middle of negotiations as we speak, they are setting up the back end infrastruction to be able to handle e-readres such as the Kindle. The PR person was willing to give me any juice as to whether Rogers would offer the Amazon Kindle.
