Marketing Week came to a close last night as Marketing Magazine ended off with a 100 year celebration party.

Many agency heads joined to help celebrate including Tony Chapman (Capital C), Dawna Henderson (henderson Bas), Mark Goodman (Twist Image), Julia Rusciolelli (Maverick), Erin Jandciu (Forth Wall Media) and Michael Girgis (Forth Wall Media).  Marketing’s Publisher & Editor-in-Chief, Christopher Loudon kicked things off with a warm Thank You to the readers and staff for all the hard work and devotion over the years.

The week’s events included their Digital Day, Media Excellence Day and Canadian Creativity Summit.

I’m sure this is something that Marketing Magazine plans to hold on an annual basis and is a great way to help educate and bring the community together.

Privately owned and operated Buy Canadian First (BuyCanadianFirst.ca) has appointed Melissa Thibodeau as Director, Marketing and Business Development. Melissa also joins as a partner in the business and will help the company launch their new web presence later this summer.
The new site will offer consumers a single gateway to find and learn about products that are “Made in Canada” and it will also showcase content that celebrates Canadian culture in general and successes that are uniquely home-grown. Previously, Melissa who is based in Montreal, was Account Director at Twist Image and Director of Business Development at Bell Web Solutions and Komunik. She brings 10 years of sales and marketing experience working in the digital space.

As I previously mentioned I’ve approached a number of vendors who sell into Canada that are offering various social media services to compile report on Who’s Who In Social Media. The results were not as impressive as I thought, but based on the comments that I have received this is what you want to know.

A questionnaire was sent to a number of agencies that I had already heard of or was referred to. I developed a rating system based on the completed campaigns each vendor done, I also looked at each agency’s ability to actually use the various social media tools. Taking into consideration things such as whether they are consistently updating their blog, if the content is relevant to what their company offers or is just another “copy cat blog” about the latest industry gossip. The other piece that I feel is important is the ability for the agency to integrate their blog into their existing corporate presence. There is absolutely no point to sending a reader to two different places to read your thoughts and another to find your office location, if you wouldn’t suggest this for your client, then why practice it for your own presence.

Based on the data provided back from each vendor as of October 2007, Twist Image scored the highest with 8/10, while Wildfire Strategic Marketing scored the second highest with 4/10. The completed report is available here for download.

The next report will come out in March with more vendors and a deeper look into the services being offered. If there are vendors who aren’t included but would like to feel free to contact me.
