A few weeks ago we had asked who would buy Public Mobile, the struggling wireless provider, that launch in March 2010 has found a buyer. Public announced this week this week that Toronto-based investment vehicle of Peter J. Thomson, and Cartesian Capital, a New York-based private equity firm have come to the table.
Back in April, Waterloo-based Fondo announced they plan to acquire WIND Mobile, last week TELUS acquired Mobilicity so the natural question is what will happen with Public Mobile?
Fortunately with its 250,00 customer base, a “knight in shining armor,” has swooped in as TELUS has agreed to acquire the struggling Mobilicity for $380 million. The agreement is still subject to approval from the Competition Bureau, Industry Canada, and Mobilicity’s debtholders.
They call him 007, and he carries the new Sony Xperia T phone, and good news as the smartphone will be available in Canada and available through a number of carriers including Bell, Mobilicity, MTS, Rogers and Videotron this November.
