Market research firm Synovate has released some new data about choices of how Canadians do their banking and the results aren’t that surprising as online banking sees a steady growth compared to the same time period in 2008. As part of the firm’s latest retail banking survey they have some data that looks at the (5) ways how consumers do their banking today, automated telephone banking, live telephone banking, ATM, in branch banking and online.
- ATM – 69.8% (71.6% in 2008
- Online banking – 61.9% (60% in 2008)
- In branch – 56.6% (58.3% in 2008)
- Automated telephone banking – 17.6% (19.5% in 2008)
- Live telephone banking – 16.2% (17.4% in 2008)
“Telephone banking usage has been declining for some time now,” noted Adrian Murphy, Vice President for Syndicated Research at Synovate Canada, who is responsible for the study. “Usage of ATMs and in-branch banking is also softening over time,” he added.
Unfortunately Synovate didn’t separate mobile banking from general online banking in general as that is become more secure and will I’m sure will be a separate line item in next year’s survey results.
* Results were based on 39,000 homes being polled

Very good syndicated research study, appreciated.
