StatusNet Secures $875,000 In Funding, Ready To Take On Micro-Blogging Market

Montreal-based StatusNet, developer of an open source micro-blogging platform have received $875,000 in funding for their startup from iNovia Capital as well as European angel investor Oleg Tscheltzoff of Fotolia.com.

“We’re excited by the opportunity for growth this investment brings,” says Evan Prodromou, CEO of StatusNet Inc. “We plan to use this capital to build the sales, support and marketing power needed to take our software and services to the marketplace.”

The company is trying to be the “WordPress of the the micro-blogging world,” which is a big task in itself as many have tried to break into the micro-blogging world but have fall short. StatusNet was founded in 2008 and has since created a platform that will run hundreds of micro-blogging sites, one of which is Identi.ca.
