I recall reading an issue of Profit Magazine about three years ago (ya, back then magazines were a big deal) and it said that if you wanted to become a millionaire then sell your products through Walmart. Fast forward the clock a few years to launch week’s launch of the Apple iPhone here in Canada and you have an entirely new market to penetrate.
Halifax-based Spreed has gone live with a service for mobile devices, specifically the iPhone that allows the user to read content on a mobile device. The services will also be available for Blackberry devices in the coming months. The offering is pretty basic and will need to beef it self up to compete with other offerings from companies such as Viigo.

Dave
I really appreciate the post. We are so thrilled by all the support the Canadian startup community has given us. I just wanted to leave your readers with a few more points about Spreed.
Firstly, we are based out of Toronto. Both Anthony Novac and Patrick Keefe (co-founders) originated from Halifax. However, our offices are in downtown Toronto (Around Queen and John). I invite anyone who is interested in seeing demo’s of some of our future product offerings to contact us and arrange a time to drop by the office!
Regarding beefing up the product: We want to keep the functionality as simple as possible right now. Spreed:News is a departure from the way people regularly read. We have spent two years studying eye science (a field of cognitive psychology) to understand how the brain and eye digest text on a digital screen. We feel our proprietary news reader (although different) will positively effect how people read their news on the go. That being said, we will be rolling out new features, but mostly based on community feedback. We want to ensure that we are creating a product for our users and not just for us! Our feeds are growing by the day and we build our library based on popular demand on the net and from our user base.
In addition this is just the first product offering from Spreed. We will be rolling out a slew of reading enhancement products for web, mobile and desktop platforms, over the next year.
Once again thank you for the post and I hope to see you all out tonight at DemoCamp18 … we will be presenting!
They appear to have gone bankrupt. I tried contacting them for support and they didn’t answer my emails.
Text message dating will spot an explosion within the next few months. With almost everyone and their dog having access to a mobile device, it’s inevitable that people will look for ways of reaching out to the dating world through their devices. In fact, it’s already happening to some extent. People carry their ipod touch almost anywhere they go. Making mobile dating so simple anyone can do it.
SMS dating is one of those things that are difficult to implement. Why? Because there a large number of diverse formats you must take into account. Their is many cellular devices that individuals utilize for their mobile dating needs. Can we really appeal to all devices? Perhaps it is, but it surely wouldn’t be functional. Instead of trying to generate a place for all cell users to get in touch, it may be easier to build diverse places for individuals from precise products to date. There are plenty of forms to be better to appeal to the greater preferred products and let people progressively upgrade to people gadgets instead of limit web-site features to the rest.
