Sony Ericsson is expanding the operating systems they support with the launch of their new Xperia X10 which was unveiled yesterday. The phone won’t officially hit the market until sometime in the first half of 2010 but could give Sony Ericsson a much needed surge in customer base as this is their first smartphone to be using Google’s Android operating system. The core behind the new phone are Sony Ericsson applications Timescape and Mediascape. Sony Ericsson Timescape wil help to manage all your communication with one person in one place. Browse through your conversations the bright way to check out your Facebook, Twitter, photos, emails, and texts. Mediascape helps to manage music, photos and videos and can access sites such as YouTube.

The Xperia X10 will also have a Wireless Stereo Headset with FM Radio and can be run on a GSM or HSPA wireless network.
Unfortunately the phone will only be running Android 1.6, where as the much hyped Motorola Droid will be running Android 2.0, but at least users can use applications from both the Android Marketplace and the Sony Ericsson’s PlayNow Arena. No pricing information was available at press time.
