SaskTel and TELUS Sign Wireless Network Sharing Agreement, Saskatchewan Gets HSPA Network Access

With their new High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) now ready for prime time, TELUS is also entering into a wireless network sharing agreement wirelesswith SaskTel, the full service communications provider based in Saskatchewan. The network will be available on November 5, 2009 and is expcted to provide download speeds of up to 21 megabits per second, as well customers will have access to Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technologies.

“SaskTel has continually evolved its wireless network in Saskatchewan to provide its customers access to innovative and leading-edge services,” SaskTel president and CEO Robert Watson said. “Our agreement with TELUS will maximize our $172 million investment in deploying UMTS/HSPA wireless technologies and will provide our customers increased benefits such as access to Canada’s largest 3G+ network.”

SaskTel is also working on several network enhancements which are expected to be launch mid-2010 and targeted to be completed by 2011.
