With all the rave and success of online video distribution service Hulu it was only a mater of time before a Canadian broadcaster came up with their on version of the video on demand service. Rogers has announced their new ad-supported online video service which they will make available
to their 2.3 million cable subscribers. Once a customer has been verified they will be able to watch content on any computer, content is said to come from 15 channels the company either owns fully or partly such as A&E Canada, Rogers Sportsnet and G4 Canada, as well as shows fed in from Warner TV, and Vuguru (the Michael Eisner venture they recently invested in).
The new service will be available on November 30 and according to Dave Purdy, Rogers Vice President of Video Product Management, new content partners will continue to be added in the coming months, as well live streaming of events (hmmm, possible upcoming 2010 Olympic Vancouver Games in Vancouver) and will be looking to introduce a mobile application and social media sites in the second half of 2010.
