Report on BusinessIt is no secret that the newspaper and print business is a tough haul and increasingly competitive. Each publication is looking at new ways to keep revenues and some are doing a complete make over of their business. Last year the globeandmail.com did a re-haul of their website and now ReportonBusiness.com has just completed their new look. As part of it they have now separated the site into 6 sections including:

  • - News and comment: breaking business news around the clock from the Report on Business editorial team, supported by expert commentary and analysis
  • - Market action: market data and key movers and indicators in the market. Users can see at a glance what stocks are hot, ice cold, most heavily traded and have hit new highs/lows for the day or week
  • - Globe Investor and GlobeInvestorGOLD: access to The Globe’s award-winning suites of tools and information for tracking markets, personal portfolios, and company performance and news
  • - Globe Fund: specialized tools and information for mutual fund investors
  • - Your Money: investment information, news, and tools on topics from tax planning to mortgages to alternative investing, including a daily tip on how to be a better manager
  • - Management: news and information on business management topics.

Will this new look be enough for newspapers to survive?   US publications still seem to be struggling, with New York Times recently reported that their their online advertising growth is down by 30% this year.  Of course part of the other problem is writers and reporters for these publications launching their own personal blogs which can often divide or steal away readership.
