QuickPlay MediaEx-Telecom veteran, Wayne Purboo and the rest of the team behind Toronto-based QuickPlay Media have once again taken the capabilities of mobile devices to a new level which is something they have been busy doing all throughout the year. Their latest announcement is the availability of OpenVideo 4.0, a platform they developed which enables mobile operators to offer consumers full length content—including movies and TV—in a way that fits the unique viewing preferences of each customer. Mobile consumer are “always on” due mainly to the advancements in the technology making life and usage easier with better features from manufactures such as Blackberry, Nokia and Motorola, it only makes sense that we’d hear an announcement such as this sooner or later especially when you consider that two years ago the mobile device was being called the “Third Screen.”

“Working closely with leading mobile operators, we have seen how the evolution of the mobile device and the network has created a surge in demand for full-length TV and movie content from consumers,” said Wayne Purboo, CEO and co-founder of QuickPlay Media. “We are very excited to support this growing demand with a high-quality solution tailored to fit the unique requirements of a customer viewing this type of content while mobile, and to do it in a way that ensures network impact on the mobile operator is minimized.”

The OpenVideo platform also brings a powerful search capability that allows customers to look for particular content within a segment. In addition, mobile operators and/or content providers are also able to “chapterize” a long-form video into smaller, more digestible segments, thereby minimizing impact on network bandwidth. Expect to see first mobile carrier implementation of the feature set will occur in Q1 of 2008.
