Nortel awarded $300 million to proide VOIP solutions

The U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) awarded Nortel Government Solutions which is a wholly owned division of Nortel a 10 year contract to provide VOIP solutions in a deal worth $300US million to replace existing telephone systems. The deal is said to be one of the world’s largest enterprise VoIP implementations which includes 1,600 SSA field offices.
“The fact that our offering came out on top speaks volumes about our world-class technology, services and performance,” said Chuck Saffell, chief executive officer, Nortel Government Solutions, in a release. “Drawing from Nortel’s comprehensive portfolio of enterprise and service provider VoIP solutions gave us the ability to offer the best solution for a customer and a network of this magnitude.”
With the move to a VOIP based solutions, SSA will be able to provide improved service levels, consolidate monthly recurring public network service costs and decrease operating and maintenance costs while establishing a platform to support future applications and services.
