Toronto’s Bloor Street West was hopping last Sunday morning as children (and children at heart) hit the streets for the third annual Urban Easter Egg Hunt being put on by Newmindspace.
Newmindspace is the creation of Lori Kufner and Kevin Bracken, two University of Toronto students committed to what they call “interactive public artâ€Â. The duo regularly hold events such as subway parties, pillow fights and bubble battles in various public arenas. The events are open to anyone who wants to participate. In the two years since its creation, Newmindspace has held over 30 events in three cities. Torontonians maybe familiar with the Fight Global Warming fundraiser the group helped organize last November with the World Wildlife Fund.
The popularity of these events has led to a variety of media coverage (http://www.newmindspace.com/press.php) and a legion of fans, especially those of the online variety. Events are regularly publicized and organized via the Newmindspace website and Toronto’s blogging community.
For Easter Egg Hunt 2007, Newmindspace has set up a wiki where people volunteered or could make suggestions for the event. At last count, 37 people have signed up to assist in event logistics. You can check out photos from last year’s hunt on flickr.
