A few weeks ago when we reported that Bell and TELUS were launching their new combined 3G HSDPA ahead of time it was
also a day when the monopoly on the Apply iPhone that Rogers held for years was put to rest. Yesterday all three carriers (Bell, Rogers and TELUS) announce they are each going to be offering the Blackberry Bold 9700 from Research In Motion (RIM).
Cool features of the Blackberry Bold 9700
- 3.2 MP camera with variable zoom, autofocus, flash and video recording
- microSD/SDHD memory card slot that supports up to 16 GB cards; a 2GB card is
included - Media player for videos, pictures and music
- full QWERTY keyboard Built-in Wi-Fi
The device will not be available to Canadians until sometime in November but looks like a great addition to the line up of Blackberry devices, might even get me to upgrade. With the new Canadian wireless carriers expected to launch next month I can’t help but wonder whether they will also add smartphones to their line up and offer Canadians a more sophisticated wireless solution.

I can’t wait to see how the companies are going to differentiate themselves now that they will all be carrying similar telephone lineups.
Rogers prided itself on having the newest technology and having it first in the Canadian market. They also spoke about being the only provider of things like the BlackBerry Bold and the Apple iPhone. Now that this edge will be lost, what will happen as the telecom companies in Canada battle it out?
Only time will tell.
