Just a quick 2 years after starting the site, Randy Charles Morin sold the site to NBC Universal. Rmail is a service or website that the Brampton based blogger started to allow readers to subscribe to blogs via email. Last last year, Rmail struck a deal with FeedBurner provider their users with the Rmail email solution. Today Rmail has over 50,000 users and 100,000 subscribers.
I had a chance to chat with Randy about about the deal and some of the things that got him here.
DF - Why did you sell now?
RCM - NBC is much better capable of turning Rmail into a big success than I am.
DF - How much did you sell Rmail for?
RCM - Sorry, not allowed to disclose that.
DF - How did you start the deal?
RCM - I didn’t. Other people had the idea, but were unable to implement RSS to email reliably. I ran the kbcafe blogging network and needed an RSS to email solution. After getting frustrated with various other systems that simply didn’t work, I created Rmail myself.
DF - What will your role with Rmail be now?
RCM - I will continue to run Rmail for NBC.
DF - What is the biggest thing that you have learnt over the 2 years since the business started?
RCM - Rmail is not a business, its a website. The biggest thing that I learnt, is that anybody can do this. A little bit of Internet smarts and a lot of effort can go a long way in this day.
DF - If you did it all over again what would you do different?
RCM - Nothing.
