I recall about 5 years ago sitting down with one of the founders of Syndesis (which has been acquired by Subex Azure) about the future of technology and how consumers will one day be able to walk down the street and get an alert on their mobile device about today’s lunch special at the restaurant across the street from them.  We’re a few steps closer and MTS Allstream has just launched three new  introducd location-based services, known as LocateServices for their MTS Mobility wireless customers.

“Families, individuals and business owners need the right tools to tackle the challenges of today’s hectic lifestyles,” said Stan Kurtas, Vice-President Marketing, Consumer Markets, MTS Allstream. “The launch of MTS Allstream’s Locate Services is one more example of how we provide innovative products toour customers that they can use to make life more manageable.”

The fist offering is their  Seek & Find service which allows a user to locate family and friends by viewing the location of their wireless device in “real-time” from an Internet connection, landmarks and alerts can also be set up to stay on top of things such as the arrival of the kids from school. Also for consumers is #TAXI which will order a taxi cab in the general area of the mobile device. The last service aimed at business users called GoTrax is a Web-based application that allows customers to locate their mobile employees in “real-time” on an interactive map from a desktop or laptop computer. Simple to use, the GoTrax service can be added as a feature to customers’ wireless accounts. With this service, employees can be dispatched more quickly, response times can be improved, and fleets can be better managed.
