Nielsen Online released some new data on mobile usage from Q1 2008

Top 3 Mobile Internet Search Providers for Q1 2008 by Provider Share

  1. Google 61 percent
  2. Yahoo! 18 percent
  3. MSN 5 percent

Who is using mobile search?

  • Google and Yahoo! mobile search skew male; 65 percent of Google search users and 63 percent of Yahoo! searchers are male.
  • At 9.0 searches per month, Google users search more frequently than users of any other mobile Internet search provider. Yahoo! is the third most frequently used provider, with Yahoo! users searching 6.7 times per month.
  • 44 percent of Google users rate their satisfaction with mobile Internet search between 8-10 on a 10-point scale, compared to 40 percent of Yahoo! users

Google and Yahoo! mobile searchers seek out the same objectives in nearly equal proportions:

    The future of mobile search is local mobile search. It will be interesting to see how mobile social networking overlaps with localization services over the coming year - especially with loopt now part of the new iphone platform
