MicrosoftJared Spataro, Group Product Manager for Microsoft was in town last week for to have an open discussion about Microsoft’s Enterprise Search solutions with a room business and technology professionals. Enterprise Search allows for employees of a company to gain access to internal data across an enterprise such as Intranets, HR or financial data. How many times have you sat at your computer and tried to find a document on your companies internal network, only to give up after spending an hour and another thirty minutes with the help desk trying to locate it? IDC estimates that a company with 1,000 employees all trying to find information could cost up to $5.3 million US per year trying to locate information on a company network.

On one hand they are playing catch up to Google’s Enterprise Search, but on the other hand they have the advantage of integration with other Microsoft products such as SharePoint and Office and fits into their overall Search Marketing strategy that includes Live Search platform. Jared adds that Microsoft is offering a “one two punch, and enterprise search is the sweet spot.” This refers to the three levels that are being offered, Entry, Enterprise and their Specialized offering of Enterprise Search products. Cineplex and the Certified General Accountants of Ontario are current customers of Microsoft using the Enterprise Seach product.

Enterprise Search doesn’t sound too sexy, but it is big business and continues to grow year after year, solutions such as their Specialized version have become big components to power many ecommerce sites around the world, which on its own count for billions of dollars in revenue for the company.
