A few months ago we covered the launch of Metro’s news app or both the iPhone and Blackberry devices and now they’ve taken things to new level with the launch of a fully bilingual for the Apple iPhone. This is also a first as the Metro iPhone app is the only one in the App Store that allows users to choose between an English or French interface and also receive news content in either language.
“Metro is quickly establishing itself as a leader in the mobile space and we’re the only daily newspaper publishing in both official languages, so it makes sense that we would be the ones to reach this milestone first,” said Jodi Brown, Marketing and Interactive Director for Metro Canada.”
The opportunity for mobile apps doesn’t stop at just being able to syndicate your content, as Jodi shared with me that Metro is also using the apps to help brands target Metro readers and recently finished a Silk Soy campaign just finished and an H&M campaign is going live shortly.
“The launch of this application will continue to build on our success at reaching young, active, connected metropolitans and offering advertisers exciting new ways to reach consumers,” said Brown, predicting that the rapid growth seen since the launch of the first (all English) Metro iPhone app—1300% increase in mobile page views in 3 months—will accelerate even more with the addition of Montreal.
A big change in the content world is coming and it is coming fast.
