For months we’ve heard that Time Warner is looking to spin off AOL, and now Silicon Alley Insider reports that as many as 2,000 will be laid off next Friday in efforts to cut costs. As its US parent struggles I can’t help but wonder what the future for AOL Canada will be? They recently re-launched AOL.ca, and opened up their Spinner Canada music service, so there must still be a little fight left. Or will AOL Canada suffer the same fate that we saw with MySpace Canada as it shut down its entire Canadian operations as we broke the news.
