Looking around at the momentum and excitement that has occurred around the Web, the number of start-ups, the flow of angel and venture funding for companies that haven’t even been around to celebrate a five year anniversary can make any serial entrepreneur or corporate executive wonder if they should try their hand at being the next Google acquisition? For Jose Leal, who Founded Autonet.ca in 1995 and three years later sold it to Canoe, it has made his entrepreneurial bug itch a bit more. He is giving up the corner office as General Manager and Vice President of the Canoe Toronto, where he sat since 1998 and with a team going to launch a next generation local search application called WikiDomo which he’s shared will be going into a private beta in early 2008. It does make sense that he makes a playing into the local search market and try to capture some of the estimated $12 billion in local advertising. It should be interesting to see how this new service will compete again other local players such as Zip Local.
