Simple, buy a Web 2.0 company. Yesterday, aside from the daily dose of spam, one of the first emails to arrive in my box was a request for help finding a business to buy. Ironically a few hours later the announcement from Tucows that they’ve purchased Kiko which is a AJAX calender application for $258,100 on eBay. CEO, Elliot Noss shared on the Tucows corporate blog “Why We Bought Kiko.com“, which comes down to purchasing a ready-made feature instead of investing a few years into developing from scratch. Did this announcement have any effect on the companies stock? Not really, as they opened at $.094 USD and closed at $.90 USD.
