At the recent PubCon conference, Matt Cutts (Head of Google‘s Webspam team) shared with the audience that they will start to factor in how fast a website loads into its algorithm that ranks web pages. The move makes sense but keep in mind that is only one of the over 200 factors that Google looks at when ranking a website.
As more smartphones get into the hands of consumers we will need faster ways of serving up web pages, not to mention the ads that companies such as Google with it Google AdWords serve up. For their $750 million investment they made last week in mobile advertising network AdMob this move also makes a tremendous about of sense and will help to keep Google as a pivotal player on the Internet.
