No mater what the market conditions are there will always be a need for freelancers.  One of the most popular sites on the Internet today is Freelancer.com, and it looks like they are going to have a bigger focus on Canada.  The company announced they have acquired Scriptlance, for an undisclosed sum and will rebrand the site to Freelancer.ca.   Scriptlance launched in 2001 and currently has over 360,000 enterprise and professional users.

Over a decade later, Scriptlance has users from 244 countries, regions and territories globally. Well over 600,000 projects have been posted to date, with over US$43 million paid out to freelancers.

Through Freelancer.ca, businesses and professionals can post jobs, hire and pay a freelance digital workforce in Canadian dollars. Additionally, Freelancer.ca will be available in the French language by the end of July. Already with over 100,000 Canadian users, the Freelancer.ca platform will be bolstered significantly by the Scriptlance purchase.
