Edelman Canada has named Freda Colbourne as the new Chief Executive Officer of Edelman Canada effective immediately. Prior to Edelman, Freda was a senior communications professional at Molson Breweries where she worked on the company’s responsible use program; major product launches and sponsorship events; and Molson’s corporate social responsibility initiatives supporting AIDS and breast cancer. Ms. Colbourne’s appointment is due to unfortunate circumstances as her predecessor and mentor Charles Fremes, who died unexpectedly earlier this year.

“I am truly honoured to be leading Edelman Canada and its strong and experienced team of professionals in this next phase of evolution and growth, and in continuing Charles’ legacy of building a great organization based on integrity, enormous talent and wonderful clients,” Colbourne said. “Edelman is truly a pioneer in developing new PR initiatives and I look forward to introducing innovative communications strategies in social media and digital solutions to Canadian clients as we continue to strive to be the leading PR firm in the country.”

The quote from Freda is significant as it indicates a new direction for Canadian operations of the world’s largest private public relations firm as they look to make moves towards being able to offer clients social media and digital media solutions.
