From fad to fab - b5 media gets round of VC funding
Here’s yet another sign that the shift is happening. Many people thought that blogging was just a fad, hell some people still don’t think it will last. Rick Segal a Toronto based VC over at JLA Ventures has just made the official annoucement that they and Brightspark Ventures have invested in B5 media. B5 media is a blogging network by bloggers from around the world covering the subjects they are most passionate about. The network is run by Jeremy Wright, Duncan Riley, Darren Rowse & Shai Coggins.
So what was the deal with - $2 million US. Congrats to all!

although more seriously though I’d look at our setup compared to any online content play, not just blogging alone, sure, blogs and blogging are all great buzz words, but we do like to think that fundamentaly we’re in the content creation business, even if we do present it in blogs..and we’ve found that a lot of our readers look at us this way as well, indeed, you won’t always find the word “blog” on all of our blogs, even though that’s what they are..because most readers care mainly there for the value of the content, no necessarily the format in which it is published.
If it’s a fad it’s an awfully big one

Duncan - you are absolutely right, the term “blogging” will disappear very shortly and organizations like b5 media will be well positioned for to capture the next evolution.
What will be interesting to know is how soon will it happen and what will it look like?
