Is Microsoft ahead or behind the curve?
Well another important brand has announced that he’s leaving Microsoft - Niall Kennedy reports. Why would he leave? Valley Wag has already done an exit interview with him.
Earlier this year we saw Robert Scoble leave the company. I’m sure Bill & Ray aren’t losing any sleep over this, after all they a very large corporation to continue to run and with over 50,000 employees world wide there’s only so many people you can really get to know. Other departments will probably feel some type of side effect, no doubt Heather Hamilton’s inbox is flooded right about now with everyone wanted an inside scoop (but there isn’t one). Here’s the scoop - Microsoft is not an entrepeneur environment, it is just too big for that.
As for the public, they definitely notice - remember Robert was the top story on BBC news. After the clock strikes 5 we all become consumers, wonder what we’ll be thinking the next time we pick up an Xbox or log onto Windows Live?
Both of these guys helped to increase the brand of Microsoft in our eyes as we followed their blogs respectively (and will continue after they leave MS), and at some point they become the brand of Microsoft and vice versa. As key bloggers like this leave, is the brand of Microsoft ahead or behind the curve?

I’ve not received a single e-mail asking that question, actually. I don’t know anything about Niall’s situation. I do believe that people need to find companies that are a great match for them and if they feel they have made a mistake, they are the only ones that should fix it.
We focus on the few people who leave because there’s an “event” involved. You can announce that you are leaving, but who announces that they are staying? Let me be the first: I’m staying. I love working here and if that changes, I’ll leave. But I’ve been here for 7 years and still happy to be here.
