Google made the big announcement Wednesday that their Nexus One smartphone is now available to Canadian through their online store. The phone will run $xxx and will use Google’s Android operating system and will come as an unlocked phone, meaning it can be run on any Canadian wireless network.
While Bell, Rogers and TELUS have made statements that they will not be carrying the device it is inevitable that they all will as mobile phones are a commodity market and they need to keep their market share. New comer Wind Mobile who’s aggressively said they want to bring the Google Nexus One to Canada and their customers.

So who will be the first to officially offer the Nexus One in Canada?

Toronto-based Viigo Inc. recently signed up yet another customer as Business Wire, a Berkshire Hathaway company has signed a deal to use their Viigo for BlackBerry solution which will be co-branded with Business Wire.  As well Viigo will offer their Viigo for Windows solution, both will be used to help deliver real-time news over smartphones.

TELUS has announced it is investing $650 million in Alberta in 2010 as it continues extending the reach and speed of its advanced wireline and wireless broadband services to more Albertans.

The company also plans to expands its wireless broadband network that they started a major build on from November 2009 as they continue to batte to be the biggest and fastest wireless network.

To help kick off March awareness, the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada (CCAC) has launched a new campaign to encourage Canadian men and women to show their butts online so as to raise awareness about the importance of getting screened for colorectal cancer.  The campaign was created by the team at Ogilvy Montreal and includes online campaign, transit ads, digital boards, and a TV commercial, an English website – www.getyourbuttseen.ca and French – www.faitesvoirvosfesses.ca have been created.

“We wanted to create an edgy campaign that would encourage individuals to start a conversation about colon cancer. It is so important to get people to overcome their reluctance to talk about the disease, because we know that once people start to talk about it, they will eventually act on their knowledge and get screened. We had to create something that would be a little controversial and provocative to initiate the conversation, and Ogilvy Montreal was the perfect partner in helping us realize our goal,” said Barry D. Stein president of the CCAC.

Online users can upload images of different bottoms that appear to have been taken by a photocopier or upload an image of their own backside and then send it to their friends via e-mail or for posting on Facebook. Users can select a preexisting photo of a sensational butt using a list of characteristics (sex, age, size and style) presented in a drop down menu. As the steps to send the image are completed, the user is presented with facts and statistics about colorectal cancer.

On March 31 the CCAC will ask Facebook users to post the uploaded image of their selected butt as their profile picture in a demonstration of solidarity in the battle against colorectal cancer.  They have also worked with a number of other media partners to help get the word out including Newad, The Weather Network, METROMEDIA, Onestop, Rogers media, TSN.ca, Canoë, AOL and Astral Media and Publicité Sauvage.

The market share of visits to Facebook.com increased 185% last week as compared to the same week in 2009, while visits to Google.com increased 9% during the same time frame. Together Facebook.com and Google.com accounted for 14% of all US Internet visits last week.
