It was just over a year ago that I posted about the first Facebook Camp Toronto and things have certainly grown with Facebook but also the user base and developers and advertising who are using the social media platform. This past Tuesday Facebook Camp Toronto 4 was hosted in downtown Toronto to a packed room of 350+ developers, advertising and marketing professionals who came out to the free event to learn how the can take advantage of what has become one of the most popular social networking sites on the Internet today.

The dynamic duo trio behind the event, of Colin Smille, Roy Pereira (both from Refresh Partners) and Andrew Cherwenka (Trapeze Media) continue to bring the community together and education on how to leverage and use Facebook for business. Refresh Partners made the official announcement of their Refresh Analytics which is an analytics to solution for Facebook applications.

Facebook Stats

  • 30,000 approved applications being used (Feb 4); 5,500 in October
  • New Design profile coming soon in the next few days
  • 8.4 million Canadian using FB
  • 56% Canadian Females vs. 44% Canadian Males
  • 18 - 24% (31%); 25 - 34 (29%); Over 35 (27%); Under 18 (13%)

Rebecca Sawyer from Facebook’s Monetization team was speaking at the event and shared some examples of how companies have used Facebook’s advertising platform.

So what’s next for the social media giant in Canada? One can only guess, but the next logical step would be to increase their presence in Canada by hiring a Canadian Facebook team. Facebook can not continue the type of open door growth they’ve seen so far without someone coming into Canada and trying to steal their thunder, oh wait, it is already happening
