They came, them shared, they provided great education!!! With presenters from such organizations as WOMMA (Word of Mouth Marketing Association), me2Revolution, FeedBurner, Hill & Knowlton and Ice.com, last Tuesday’s Word Up Conference was a success. The audience was a nice mix of PR firms, agencies and clients representing a diverse range of industries from as far east as PEI.
What is the “word” from some of the attendees and media:

  • “as an outsider to marketing as a profession, but one who wears the “marketing hat” in their office, the Word Up! conference was energizing, insightful and idea germinating. Like the old addage, the “devil’s in the details”, I felt like the sessions filled in the cracks in my Word of Mouth Marketing experience and understanding. It was refreshing to be able to be able attend a conference like this on Canadian soil!”

  • “There’s no doubt that a badly written review is a real review,” says Andy Sernovitz, CEO of the Chicago-based Word of Mouth Marketing Association and the acknowledged guru of word of mouth marketing. “It’s all about real people, real authenticity. You trust regular folks.”
  • Sernovitz’s comments are backed up by the findings of the seventh annual Edelman Trust Barometer, a survey that tracks the attitudes of nearly 2,000 opinion leaders in 11 countries. This year’s study found that 68% of people in the U.S. believe that “a person like me”is their most credible source of information about a company, up significantly from 20% in 2003, surpassing doctors and academics for the first time.
  • Speaking at the first annual “Word Up!” word of mouth marketing conference in Toronto yesterday, Sernovitz told a gathering of marketers and agency people that an estimated 26% of the population rated something online last year–whether it was a big-ticket item like a car or a TV to more mundane items like packaged goods.
