Edelman buys Canadian PR firm Karyo

The “small” public relations agency that Dan Edelman founded on October 1, 1952 once again continues to grow under the leadership ofPatti Schom-Moffat his son Richard who’s long since taken the reigns and has turned it into the world’s largest independent public relations firm, with 2,600 employees in 47 offices worldwide. Last week the official announcement was made that they have taken a majority interest in Vancouver based Karyo to become part of Edelman Canada which is lead by Charles Fremes, President and CEO. This now makes it Edelman’s third Canadian office, the other locations are Toronto and Montreal. Founders Patti Schom-Moffat andPaul Welsh Paul Welsh will continue to lead the 25 person firm under its new name “Karyo Edelman.” The creation of Karyo Edelman gives Edelman presence Edelman’s global sports and Olympic practice in advance of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and it will give Karyo and their clients access to a global network through Edelman.

It will be interesting to see how the two firms work together in the coming months and what influence Edelman will have over Karyo and vice versa. Perhaps
