Ebay Sells Skype For $2.75 Billion, Back To Business Basics

skypeThe rumours and rumblings have been posted for the last week that eBay was looking to finally sell Skype to an investment group and a few minutes ago The New York Times confirmed that eBay has sold Skype for $2.75 Billion.  The group of investors led by Silver Lake and includes Index Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz and the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Investment Board will take a 65% stake in the company, eBay will receive approximately $1.9 billion in cash upon the completion of the sale and a note from the buyer in the principal amount of $125 million.

Maybe this is a sign that Ebay is looking to get back to the business model that put it on the map as the selling of Skype is the second time the company has shed off all of its non-core products as they sold Stumble Upon to its original Founders earlier this year
