Earnings: Rogers Reports 5% Growth to $2.7 Billion for Q1 2009

Rogers Communications Inc. has released their earnings for the three months ended March 31, 2009, their first full quarter after the passing of company founder Ted Rogers.  With Nadir Mohamed now at the helm as as President and Chief Executive Officer there has not been any signs of slowng down for the communications giant. Major quarter highlights include:

  • 5% revenue growth overall but slight decline in advertising revenues at Media
  • 8% growth of wireless network revenues year-over-year, 104,000 additional postpaid net subscribers
  • 360,000 smartphone device activations, 40% new subcribers to Rogers, 60% being existing accounts who have upgraded devices, committed to new term contracts, and in most cases attached both voice and monthly data packages
  • 619,999 households now receive high-definition television (“HDTV”) services
