The great thing about technology is it really has no boundaries, and as we look at growth and innovation in the mobile space over the last few months you will certainly agree that it is taking off and Canada is catching up quickly to what we see in other countries. CTV has just launched a major initiative with Telus, where CTV has become the first content provider to offer streaming video-on-demand service. Telus customers will now be able to access a wide variety of CTV television content such as THE HILLS and The Comedy Network’s SOUTH PARK, top stories and highlights from CTV News, TSN and BNN via their Smartphone.
“We’re proud to work with TELUS in providing their customers with quick and easy access to the shows they love,” said Stephan Argent, CTV’s Vice-President, Digital Media. “This new initiative fits perfectly with our commitment to providing consumers access to quality content whenever and wherever they want it. Given the significant growth of high speed wireless networks and Smartphones, there’s no question that mobile video will play a role in delivering on this promise.”
The new video-on-demand offering from TELUS will incorporate CTV’s programming from some of television’s most popular properties including:
- CTV News – including top stories updated throughout the day
- BNN – including various daily features
- TSN & RDS – including game highlights and top stories
- ETALK– Top stories from Canada’s #1 Canadian entertainment newsmagazine
- MuchMusic – including PUNK’D, MUCH ON DEMAND, disBAND
- MTV – including THE HILLS, THE CITY, NITRO CIRCUS
- The Comedy Network – including SOUTH PARK, CHAPPELLE’S SHOW, MIND OF MENCIA
- DAILY PLANET – The latest news from the internationally award-winning science program

“Two thirds of Canadian households have access to mobile phones and they are looking more than ever for quick access to information and entertainment on-the-go,” said Brent Johnston, Vice-President of Marketing Operations at TELUS. “Working with leading broadcasters such as CTV enables TELUS to bring video-on-demand content into the hands of our customers and to enhance our position as the carrier of choice for Canadian consumers.”
Great more on the part of both CTV and Telus, as mobile adoption rates continue to climb in Canada and make them a “must have” accessory for more and more Canadians. More details on the offering can be found at http://www.ctv.ca/mobilevideo
