Contec Innovations takes mobile content to Africa

Contec Innovations has teamed up with Umliba, a South African mobile content and media specialist provider to provide African mobile users with mobile soccer channels for the Barclays English Premiership League (EPL), the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL), other major global soccer leagues and competitions, as well as channels for rugby, cricket, Formula One and other sports.
“The marketplace is looking for out-of-the box solutions – and the opportunity is here to combine world leading sports content and Contec’s mobile publishing service to deliver mobile services to African operators and consumers immediately,†said Patrick Kuwana, Umliba’s CEO and also Director of PA Sport South Africa. He added: “Sports content is extremely popular in Africa and we’re looking forward to meeting demand from mobile operators and media companies as well as sponsors and advertisersâ€.
President of Contec, Don Lay also commented saying that the mobile market in Africa is currently growing at 50 - 60% annually with projections to projections to reach over 415 million subscribers by 2012. Don Lay took over Perry Quan who stepped down in August 2007.
