Although the amount of money being spent on advertising has started to decrease due to the current recession, things are slightly different with online advertising and marketers still feel it is a hot medium. Some data that was resleased by IABC in July 2008 online advertising reached an all time high of $2.8 billion. Canwest has recently won an RFP to represent TELUS sites myTELUS.com and GlobeTrotter.net to sell online advertising and ad-serving for the Canadian telecommunications company.
According to Graham Moysey, Senior Vice-President and General Manager Canwest Publishing, Digital Media, “The myTELUS and GlobeTrotter portals serve approximately 4 million unique visitors across Canada and this audience is a great complement to our existing portfolio of 80 destination sites.”
A very smart move on the part of Canwest and might lead to some consolidation of smaller advertising networks and they struggle to find the right balance between the over head to run a network and decreased advertising spend due to the current market conditions.
