Holy crap, that’s a lot of ads! The Interactive Advertising Bureau of Canada (IAB) in partnership with Ernst & Young LLP has announced the latest report on Online Advertising revenues with a 38% increase over 2006 to a record high of $1.2 Billion.
Mergers and acquisition played a big hand in driving the increase, as we saw earlier with the Internet’s Big each making significant investments in 2007. French Canadian Online properties such as Branchez-Vous also a spike with approximately $260 million or 21% of the $1.2 Billion.
The industry is hungry for this type of data as a resounding 90% of companies participated in this year’s survey according to Martin Lundie, Partner, Technology, Communications and Entertainment Assurance and Advisory Business Services for Ernst & Young LLP.

IAB Canada President, Paula Gignac says The sky’s really the limit for Online, as new developments in targeting technology, creative (it’s great to have our first Video advertising revenue number), and integrated strategies are happening on an almost daily basis — all with the goal of helping marketers capitalize on Online’s ever-growing and engaged audience. Haven spoken to a number of HR-professionals that focus on the advertising industry they are having a challenge to fill more complex roles and have had to extend their to search for talent beyond their local cities and into the United States.

ewwwww,
I hate online advertisements, most of them are only there to waste your time
I think almost all adds are dumb and annoye me,
but I realy like the smart inteligent adds, iff all adds were funny and intelligent, more peopl would pay attention to them.
But I personaly think that is too much muney for adds.
We could use that money for better things then adds.
In 1920 majority of shareholders sold their stake in Ford because they insisted the auto industry had reached its peak. Maybe they were right in light of the events with the Big 3 recently.
Many are saying that Online Advertising has reached its peak already.
Major trends follow the S-curve where it takes 50% of the time to reach 10% of the market and the same amount of time to reach 90%.
With that logic, online advertising is now at 8-9% of all marketing budgets. It would be a strong indicator then in the next 10-12 years it will be 90%.
We are about to witness a major shift and transfer of wealth. Which side will you be on?
